It’s a tiny amount. I’ve seen cracks but tuna towers are pretty robust. I just love to watch truly talented TIG welders control over heating the weld.

To get the best welds, the anodizing should be removed with a flap sanding disc (40-60grit) on the welded areas. 4043 will give the closest color match and 5356 is close.

I don't remember the grade but i do remember we didn't have a plastic die, so we use "red and tacky" grease VERY liberally and it came out fine, not necessarily scratch free but good enough for what we were doing.

Jul 20, 2004 Anodized aluminum welding is hard on a machine. The Syncrowave 250 or the Dynasty 200DX would be preferable to the Syncrowave 180. It is a great machine, but an increased amperage output and duty cycle are a plus for welding anodozed aluminum.

Jun 21, 2009 Make sure your welder (sounds qualified) understands "bump" welding anodized aluminum. I've seen anodized drive even experienced tiggers crazy. BTW. Ever come across a guy named John Whitting. John used to run a pretty good size fleet of charter boats on the island. That was years ago, so he may not even still be around.
