People who break carbon bars outside of a wreck 90% of the time overtorqued either the stem or brake lever bolts. Every carbon break I have ever seen happened at one of those two points. Snaps instead of bending or deforming. Compromised carbon does not fail like aluminum. Most people would not notice a compromised carbon bar before it snaps.

Best thing you can do is borrow a bike that has a set of carbon bars. Surely you ride with somebody who has a set of bars. Just find a rock garden or very bumpy section and ride both sets of bars over it.

I've had a number of Niner scandium frames, a Spot steel frame and an El Maraichi. Pretty much all of my bikes have rotated between steel rigid, carbon rigid, or F29 forks.
