The case for aluminum cathodes is that less current and less cooling is required do to the greater current carrying capacity of aluminum vs. lead.

First i have been Degreasing in Sodium Hydroxide Than I put in Nitric Acid, after that Anodizing with 0.8 amp 20Sq/inch tried with 1.5 amp and many different voltages. all connected directly to anode as aluminum piece. Cathodes are also aluminum sheets.
The cathodes can be lead or 6061/6063 aluminum alloy. Both work well but lead lasts longer. Lead sometimes has unknown alloy metals in it. If you want to be sure just use 6061 or 6063 aluminum. The cathodes should stick out of the acid so a heavy gauge ALUMINUM wire can be connected from the cathodes to the negative side of the power supply.

4. Cathodes. Aluminum cathodes with 6063-T6 alloy are necessary for newer systems and tanks. If you want to achieve a consistent result, use anode to cathode ratio of at least 3:1. As for older tanks or anodizing systems, lead cathodes is common in them but aluminum is better if you want the parts to last for a longer time.
